[LincolnTalk] Spring is in the air

Belinda Gingrich-2

Spring is in the air and garlic mustard is everywhere!

It is wonderful how easy it is to identify garlic mustard in the spring. The second year seedlings are green and lush as they gather energy to flower and produce seeds this year. In the next couple of weeks while it is still cool and the poison ivy hasn’t sent out leaves is a great time to pull up garlic mustard.

Don’t worry about bagging it. If you place it on a rock or a pile it should die quickly. This early it could dissolve well in the compost pile too.

Please bag it.... if you leave it on "rocks" -  the first rains will wash out any seeds into the surrounding ground.  Also this plant is a survivor - and easily re-roots if you just leave it in a pile.   Same with a compost pile.  Happy pulling!
