Under the proposed plan what the developer does is agree to price
units so a family of four making under $100,000 per year can afford to
live here. What the city does is permit higher density development
and eliminate the requirement to pay off people to get a permit.
Among the concessions to developers is near elimination of the
requirement for off street parking in affordable projects. As long as
you're within a half mile of a subway station or a quarter mile of a
bus stop with frequent rush hour service, you don't need a parking
lot. That quarter/half mile distance includes most of Cambridge and
none of Lincoln.
