It is a Marcel Breuer (neighbor of Gropius) Wassily chair.
Very desirable, esp. for mid century modernists.

The furniture designers of that era paid close attention to ergonomics.
Later version, know-offs were always little off.

I worked at D/R in the 70s and was able to experience some of the best of the furniture of that era, and then the decline as knock-offs looked the same, but had a very different sit.
They looked vertically the same.
For the company, they provided a much bigger profit margin, and buyers did not usually ask…prices were lower so a sale was made.

This chair is a gem!!
